Mossy for TS & Prada +++ at TK Maxx.

Celebrity lines are not usually my kinda thing. The only celebrity piece of fashion i own before this eventful day (how dramatic!) is a hoodie from Nicky Hilton’s “Chick” line. It wasn’t even a passing fad piece of fashion I bought just for her name. Mind you, I don’t even like the Hiltons, but that hoodie has served me very well and the quality is quite excellent, and I must’ve used it in my outfits so many times and it still continues to be a versatile piece in my wardrobe.
So many people have mocked Topshop for cashing in on the Kate Moss name to earn money, and at the same time we can also agree that her collections are often overrated but does that mean we should “stay away” completely? Well, I once made a vow not to buy celebrity line clothing but today I contradicted myself and I was at Topshop at 9am sharp this morning when it opened to try to get a piece of the Kate Moss action because I have fallen in love with a tweed waistcoat that I saw in Elle magazine (October).
Can you believe there was NO ONE else but me and another girl (who didn’t even see the Kate Moss station and headed straight for shoes? hahaha) I overheard 2 shop assistants discuss which items they were going to buy and I even came to an agreement with 1 of the shop assistants that the leather jacket was waaaaay too expensive.

Despite the fact that Elle magazine printed the wrong price of this waistcoat (£35 according to them, £40 was the real price), when I saw it and touched it and felt it, i knew that extra £5 would be worth it. I will admit that it looks a little like a tweed waistcoat that we might have seen in a previous NEXT catalogue, but I think the quality of the Topshop one is much better. In fact, after checking out all the rest of the new collection today, almost all the items were better made than usual Topshop stuff. I also fell in love with a cashmere mix jumper which was super soft and luxurious. £65 for roughly 70% cashmere in it is pretty reasonable I would say. I would’ve paid that if I could afford it.

Whilst the design is nothing really groundbreakingly special, it will easily fit in your wardrobe with the rest of your other clothes. Apparently, that is what Mossy was aiming for: basic pieces that you can mix around with anything else you have. For that reason, I think this collection served its purpose well and I think people should buy, but in required amounts and for the right reasons. There’s the right reason to buy (things you need and will blend in well with ur wardrobe) and there’s the complete wrong reason to buy (just for the “mossy” name or to copy “mossy). I’d say treat her items like you would with other Topshop items. Sometimes, something may cost a bit more because of the quality and the fabric content, so always check the label to justify the price you are going to pay and the number of wears you are going to get out of it for.
There was an overpriced leather jacket in the collection which i thought should cost £100 instead of £150, just like the rest of Topshop’s this season leather jackets since this one is a cropped leather jacket and require much less material. As much as I love how amazing it looked on me, the fit for my size was so tight that I could hardly move. And then there’s the true fact that “I can’t afford it” so I had to say goodbye to it. I still hope one day I can own it though, because I loooove a good ol’ cropped biker jacket. Its such a classic item and I love it worn with dresses for a more tough feminine look.

I also went into TK Maxx today to check out if the rumours of “Miu Miu, Prada & Marc Jacobs delivery on Thursday 6th Sept 07″ were true. Well, it turned out to be two-thirds true. I scoured around my local TK Maxx for about an hour and found only 1 Prada dress and 1 plain boring Miu Miu vest top. It was super disappointing.
I also spotted some Moschino and See by Chloe stuff but they weren’t my style. However, I really loved the Prada dress i found. It was a pretty silvery-blue shirt dress which looked like a trench coat as well. At £179.00 it was still too steep for me. I kept touching it and smoothing it when I saw it though. It was in my size too so how annoying was that!
There was absolutely no Marc Jacobs, but i didn’t mind that because I like Marc Jacobs waaaaay too much to see his stuff being sold in TK Maxx. I’d love to buy a “See by Chloe” piece one day though. Unfortunately, flowery prints aren’t really my thing so there was no way I would’ve bought that even though it was quite a steal at £50.
So for those of you who checked out Kate Moss’s new range and TK Maxx supposed “Miu Miu, Prada, Marc Jacobs shipment”, what did you find and what did you think of it?
The cropped leather jacket is definitely cute.
I got my mum to pick up one of the cropped leather biker jackets in Birmingham yesterday. She’ll be back with it today hopefully. I like it, but £150 is so expensive. Knowing me I’ll probably end up returning it to the shop..
