Trends 2008 pt.1

Here’s part 1 of 2: The wishlist of trends that i will be dabbling with the coming Spring/Summer 2008.
The first trend is perhaps the most simplest and most diverse of all. Everyone can have their finger in this one. I think the fun bit is to start experimenting and wear colours that you have never worn before. As you can see, all the colours are bright and bold, and none are dull.

My most favourite of all is the Matthew Williamson piece. I can see myself wearing that what it seems to be a colourful studded shirt with black jeans or a metallic bubble skirt already. Its such a standout piece that i could see myself wearing with many of my basics. American Apparel is probably your best bet when it comes to this trend, and if you did buy a pair of coloured skinny jeans last summer, its time to bring that out again! I think its time for me to invest in a pair myself, and I have my heart set on a pink pair.
The next trend, which I actually believe won’t take off, well its more like a doubt that it will take off is this modern mix with traditional middle eastern style trend.

If you are middle eastern though, now would be the time for you to mix your traditional garb with shiny metallic lame. Once again, American Apparel comes to the rescue. A metallic lame skirt or a short tube top is all it takes to mix with your pieces to work the same look featured in Juan Pedro’s show. If you are not middle eastern like me but have friends who are middle eastern, I think it would be a good idea to ask them where they get their traditional clothes from or even ask em for cast-offs. Luckily for me, my best friend is muslim and she has tons of these tailored made traditional clothes. Fret not if you are not in the first two categories, all it takes is a trip to the fabric store. You don’t even need sewing skills! Just get some chiffon fabric, there are many ways to drape and wear fabric on your body! My favourite example is to wear it like an indian sari (see link for a guide on how to wear a sari) under a metallic lame top, skirt, etc.
The egyptian style is a little tricker to work though but i have seen similar jacquard jackets and dresses on the high street before. They are pretty simple to wear and its also a kind of piece that you don’t want to over accessorise. Personally, I would love to mix a patent black leather dress or skirt with a jacquard jacket, but I am unsure how the overall result would turn out to be. I am quite sure it would look amazing with skinny leather trousers, saying that. Orangey-red lips seem to be the key to accessorising this look as well and maybe even gold jewellery (think Cleopatra?)
So do you like any of these trends and how do you intend to accomodate them into your daily outfits? I am interested to hear what you have to say. Let’s discuss.
Part 2 coming soon.
i personally have already started to incorporate loud colours into my usual outfits. and have tried mixing many diff colours together in one outfit and i love it! not too sure abt the middle eastern/egyptian though :/
