Style Guides

These days all I want is an easy read and anything that relaxes and soothes my mind. I don’t want to know woe-filled tales that will break my heart even if it almost always have a happy ending. What’s the point hey? Life is as hard as it is already, so precarious and usually full of lamentable tragedies that you have no control over. There’s no point in elaborating any futher, I’m sure most people would agree with me.
I’ve resorted to self-indulgent habits as a form of escapism which usually results in certain repercussions. Shopping is the clear example in my case, and most people’s cases. This usually becomes impossible when your bank account balance decreases to almost nought. So what do we do then?
I simply go for cheap thrills in the form of books. Thanks to Amazon.co.uk, I do not have to face any humiliation at bookstore counters when buying my favourite style bibles. Last night, I purchased the Victoria Beckham style guide book, as well as another women’s lifestyle guide called “Two Lipsticks & A Lover”. Pretty decadent reads if you ask me.
I’ll shamelessly admit that part of the reason why I bought the VB book is because of all the brands & labels she reccomended in each chapter are the mostly the same labels that I have been trying to push to my friends. Owning it is like a form of saying “hate to say I told you so” pompous declaration with evident proof coming from one of the world’s favourite style icons. The other reason I bought it was because I do secretly like VB a tiny bit and that it would give me & my best friend something to talk & discuss about since she is a major VB fan.
Other than that, the pretty pictures on every page is clearly another good reason to get it. And also the fact that it was only £5.79 (R.R.P £12.99 okay!) Along with this book, and the other book, and thanks to my boyfriend for buying his “Blade of the Immortal” (graphic novel), we didn’t even have to pay for postage! The downside is that it won’t arrive until the end of this month, although I secretly believe it will arrive earlier than that since one of Amazon’s distribution centres is actually located in my town (Swansea).
I do not know what it is with me and style guides but I just love reading em, even if most of em are pretty similar. I’m not so interested in books that only tells you what you should wear for your shape or what you should not (eg. Trinny & Susannah, Gok Wan - even tho i love that guy!) but I like style books that either inspire or offer style suggestions which I may or may not take.
One day though, I may end up writing my own style guide based on my own ideas and all the style guides that I have read along with real-life examples. Would you buy it? Lol.

I have it! An Extra Half Inch right! omg, its a great read, she loves denim as much as you do, with frequent references to the type of cut and body type.
i found my own individual style in the book, i’ll bet you would have a great time reading it!
