Musing Over Lace à la Prada
February 22, 2008 by curellasays

So many ideas come to my mind upon seeing the table cloth lace chic à la Prada Fall/Winter 2008-9. Being a denim obsessed soul, I know that lace pieces like these are just the perfect fun addition to my boring jeans and shirt combo. As demostrated on the Prada show, it is dead easy to layer lace with a tuxedo shirt, and probably even easier to layer it with your plain vest tops, t shirts, tunics, etc. My favourite piece from the show is the cropped lace jacket which was styled with a matching lace skirt. Hopefully I will be able to pick up a couple of lace pieces in the summer from vintage stores or by one of my favourite contemporary designers, Miguelina (whom I’ve mentioned in previous posts) who uses chantilly lace in almost all her collections.
Personally I wouldn’t wear two lace pieces at the same time in real life but the lace jacket & skirt combo is an exception. It is only feasible when teamed with pieces of the same colour or in colours that slightly camouflage the lace so as not to overwhelm the critical public. As inspired by the runway pictures itself, I like the idea of matching say for example, a beige lace shirt with an orange skirt (not lace!) and prefably in a contrasting fabric like satin, silk or wool.
I think I’ll probably wear my lace shirt over a warm jumper and a thick wool coat to give it some added dimension. I’d try this now if I wasn’t so broke, but I can’t wait to experiment with lace. Thank you Miuccia Prada for being every girl’s favourite muse!
