My Opinion On Wide Leg & Skinny Jeans
April 1, 2008 by curellasays
I realised that there are as many people who think either skinny or wide leg jeans make them look “bigger” and “shorter” no matter what size they are but I would like to offer my personal advice on the issue.
Both the wide leg & skinny jeans are flattering on skinny or regular sized bodies, you just need to try on as many pairs to find your perfect fit. Different brands have different cuts, so one man’s meat may be another man’s poison, if you know what i mean. The wide leg jean is forgiving and drapes gently onto your shape so you can’t tell if your “thunder thighs” are on show or not. The skinny jean, however is great for emphasizing and defining your shape (it depends on how confident you are with your body, just check out Ms Beyonce Knowles for some serious curves!). Both jeans work best with heels, in fact almost everything works best with heels.
As for people who are overweight, I would tell them to avoid both the wide leg and skinny jean. The reason for the skinny jean is obvious, but the wide leg will definitely make you appear larger than you are too. The best jean for you is the straight-leg. In fact, if anyone asks me what type of jeans are the most flattering, its not the boot-cut or the wide-leg, its always the straight-leg.
If any pair of jeans makes petites like me look short and stumpy, it is not the wide-leg or the skinny, it is the bloody BOOT-CUT! I don’t know why people think they are flattering, since the flare of the boot-cut usually starts from a few inches below the knee, which I feel; invisibly cuts inches off my legs as well. Sometimes, trying on a bad-fitting pair of jeans or a pair of jeans in an unflattering wash can make you instantly shun away from a certain style of jeans, hence the mixed reviews for both the wide leg and the skinny. If you believe what I said to you, just take some time and try on as many pairs of either the wide leg or the skinny in different stores, you will be pleasantly suprised at how the wide leg jeans you tried on at Miss Sixty made you look fat and stumpy, whereas the wide leg jeans (but perhaps in a different cut or wash) in say, Gap, seem to suit you!
I used to be one of those who think wide leg jeans would make me look shorter, but now I’m a believer again! Bring on those Siwy “Marianne” jeans anytime baby!!
Great post; you should give your advice more often
i agree, i think people shy away from a ‘type’ of jeans when they’re all different shapes anyway- H&M for examply would have like 10 different style of skinny jeans!
Love this! I commented about the Marianne Siwy’s on the wrong post (oops!). Let me know if you find them and I’ll do the same.
P.S. Thx for linking!
I totally agree with you on the bootcut. For so long there was nothing BUT a bootcut available and when I look at old photos of me in them,I think I look terrible!
