Distracted By Makeup

I’ve always kept it simple when it comes to makeup. Foundation? Check. Eyeliner? Check. Lipstick? Check. That is literally all that I consider as necessities, I don’t even bother with mascara on most days! In fact, I am so lazy with makeup that my first set of makeup brushes was a christmas gift from one of my close friends.
Recently, one of my friends introduced me to a You Tube make-up artist, who by the way is the no.1 most subscribed You-tuber in the UK called Panacea81 and because of her I am seriously thinking of putting off fashion for awhile and get myself some makeup instead. I didn’t know that there were so much makeup a girl can ever use until she came along with her 144 videos (and counting) of different makeup looks. It made me feel like a real makeup idiot.
What I did next was gather all my recent issues of Elle and Vogue to read the “Beauty” pages, which i used to not really give much attention to. The current June issue of Elle featured the Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer TWICE, making me doubly intrigued. Elle (UK) encouraged me to use it as a base when I want to use makeup to give contour to my face and on another article, mentioned that they used the same product on supermodels on the runways.

Research was on the cards next. I logged onto MakeupAlley.com, a consumer to consumer makeup/beauty products review site and checked out the reviews for that product. It all sounded good to me. I placed an order.
Another video of Panacea81 made me want to get some eyeshadow. STILA was first to come to mind. I remember the lovely lil pots of shimmery goodness that i used to lust after, but never dared to venture. Checking out Stila’s website, I found a few lovely colours that I knew I just had to have. I did not make a purchase. I decided to wait til I’m back in Singapore.

I must admit that I am quite the sucker for STILA’s packaging but I mostly adore the range of colours they have. Everything looks fun and pretty and not too intense and scary like MAC’s eyeshadows.
If you are a makeup idiot like me, you might be better off buying this Stila “smoky eye” palette which literally TALKS. It guides you on how to achieve the smoky eye look in 5 easy steps and its a limited edition palette. I wonder if I do actually need it. Its pretty cool don’t you think?

In the same Elle (UK) June magazine, I also spotted a delectable lip gloss by Yves Saint Laurent, in the same pen style as the famous highlighter, Touche Eclat. I couldn’t find that gorgeous shade I saw in the magazine online but this shade is just as nice. I love the packaging (suck-a!) and I think I will love how rich and sparkly the lip gloss is. Definitely a must-buy! I’m checking this out at the YSL beauty counter when I go into town next week.

Shades I Think Are Yummy:

According to Elle, its £18 a pop, a pinch in the pocket, but how can anyone resist such a gorgeous lip gloss? Definitely a must-buy! I love the applicator brush and also the sparkly exterior.
Well, that’s not the end of my makeup rambling: Do you remember Josie Maran? The gorgeous supermodel who used to be featured in all those Maybelline ads? You couldn’t go ANYWHERE without seeing her face at the back of magazines or at your local boots counter?
Well, the gorgeous Josie has launched her own organic, natural, and environment friendly line of cosmetics and I am extremely excited about it. Sadly it is not available in the UK yet, but I’m sure it’ll happen if there is demand right? The packaging is feminine and fresh and i especially love her “Fingerpaints” palette which holds 4 shades of multi-purpose colours for your face and it claims to flatter every skin-tone! All that and still organic and environment-friendly? What’s not to like?

What I want most from her line, however, is the “Argan oil” which is grown organically in Morocco. Its rich in Vitamin E and fatty acids and makes a great moisturiser. I have read elsewhere that it can even heal scars and clear your skin up, so it is definitely something that I need. You can also use it to heal split ends or moisturise your cuticles, etc. Sounds like another great multi-purpose product to me!

Ah, what a long list of makeup wants!
you’re not the only one! i read somewhere (maybe in the blogosphere?) that there is talk of the “lipstick theory” of economics - when money is tight, makeup sales are noted to rise as clothing/luxury good sales drop.
that being said, i have been buying more mascara than shoes myself.
I have never really been into a lot of makeup. But I’m trying.
That Argan oil sounds amazing I need to try and hunt some down. Watch out cause when you start to get into make-up it’s just more things to spend your money on! My fav at the moment is Benefit with it’s girly packaging. Oh I went to look for those shoes in Primark and didn’t have any luck either. x
total snaps on this post! you don’t have to put off fashion for makeup, just look over all the makeup at the runway shows! that’s what i do. the great thing about makeup is that once you invest in an eye shadow palette of lots of colours and some eyeliners, you can do annnny look!
I got the YSL gloss in shade no. 4 yesterday!
Thanks for the post !
