The “Jenny Humphrey” Effect

After watching this week’s edition of Gossip Girl which had the most shocking ending, I fell even deeper in love with Jenny Humphrey’s style on the show especially since Serena & Blair’s outfits are starting to bore me. In my previous post, I mentioned that she was one of the reasons why I decided on a pair of white tights but it seems this week lil Jenny Humphrey has got me wishing for more of her items. Her super cute Foley + Corrinna fuschia city bag has got the same vibe as a Balenciaga tote without the over thousand dollar price tag. I am really wishing for a Foley + Corrinna bag right now or at least a fuschia leather tote. I also love the bag in black with pryamid studs. It makes me almost wish I had bought this bag instead of my Marc by Marc Jacobs Posh JJ Turnlock. I would love a nice summer yellow dress to match the fuschia bag with. But boy am I embarrassed that I want 15 year old Jenny Humphrey’s look. Lol.

Its such a brilliant bag and you can wear it in 3 different styles. Over the shoulder, clutch or on the shoulder, i love having the choices! Most importantly, fuschia is just a brilliant colour for accessories. I can’t afford to pay $500 for a Foley + Corrinna bag right now so I guess I’ll have to look for a cheaper option elswehere. It has to be leather tho!

The black one with studs is going on my early christmas wishlist. hehe. As for now I am on the hunt for the perfect yellow dress and an afforable fuschia leather tote bag.

I can’t wait to see Jenny’s outfit next week. I am starting to looove the girl A LOT.

Also, in addition to my last blog entry along with my current mention of Gossip Girl. This screen cap of the first scene of this week’s episode is my current “tights” inspiration.

I especially love the dark wine red pair with silver shoes.

Tights Please?

Tonight I took advantage of Tightsplease.co.uk current Free Delivery promotion and got myself 3 pairs of 15 denier tights in red, pink & white which will be just perfect for summer as well as for the hot & humid 31-34 degrees celcius daily singapore weather.

I considered getting tights in blue, orange and green but chickened out at the last minute and opted for some safer choices that would go with what’s in my wardrobe better. I never thought I would buy a pair of white tights but I was inspired by Jenny Humphrey of Gossip Girl as well as Selina of Flying Saucer, both who look absolutely chic in their whitey tighties. Sheer white tights are going to be HOT this winter I think, they were featured all over the Chanel runway. Sadly, the ones i ordered are out of stock and won’t be delivered to me til the 20th, but I’ll at least have some sheer pink + red tights to play with meanwhile!

I am still contemplating of buying more (suggest colours to me people!!) as its actually quite difficult to find proper tights in Singapore (at least the last time i checked) so i need to stock up well on cheapies before i go back in Aug/Sept.  Le best friend has ordered me to help her get some coloured tights as well so we can both rock em together when we hang out again! I really can’t wait to spend time with her again! I’ll miss my boyfriend a lot (sigh!) but hopefully I’ll get used to it and that 2-3 years will fly by fast. Here’s a picture of my best friend’s outfit today. She is wearing with her new tights from Topshop with her teal dress. Am loving the colour combo!

Pearls Pearls Pearls…

[paid review]

When it comes to clothes, I usually like them glitzy and shiny and when it comes to accessorising my favourite sparkly wear, I like to use understated and classic accessories to counter-act the look. There is no better choice of accessory than a string of pearls. The first time I was enchanted by the powers of the “pearl” was when I saw a picture of Coco Chanel dressing up the little black dress with layers of pearl necklaces. It was the epitome of how accessories can totally change a look of something so simple.

Not only are pearls a timeless choice of jewellery, they can be quite affordable too. Pearl-Necklace-Jewlery.com offers a good range of genuine japanese salt and freshwater pearl jewellery at superb low prices. The pearls they use are 100% hand-picked and hand-knotted and they have all been appraised by an IGI graduate gemologist so you can be sure that they are of only the best quality. The site also offers you  a one year money back guarantee policy on your purchases as well as free worldwide delivery on all items and there is even an online expert to offer you free valuable advice on your selection.

The most classic two styles of pearl necklaces you can get are either the Akoya pearl necklace which you can also get in a double layer or the black pearl necklace. Both are great for wearing on its own but I’d like to layer the double layer pearl necklace with layers of thick and thin chains for a more dramatic look. Simplicity-wise though, I prefer the lavender pearl necklace as it stands out a little bit more than the usual pearl necklace.

It doesn’t stop there though, they also sell simple pearl earrings and bracelets. I adore the simple pearl bracelet which just looks so elegant and will look so appropriate with just about anything.

Whilst I agree that  Pearl-Necklace-Jewelry.com does offer a good range of high quality classic pearl jewelry, I feel that they could expand their range of designs or perhaps incorporate swarovski crystals into their jewelry to further enhance the qualities of their pearls. It seems to be the only thing lacking on this site but everything else seems impressive enough though.

I think that every woman should own at least one classic pearl necklace and it would be a great base layer piece for your other trendy accessories. So if you are looking for a pearl necklace, why not check out Pearl-Necklace-Jewelry.com? You’ll be getting a bargain, that’s for sure!

lazy bank holiday

I am so attached to the silver leather jacket that I can’t help wearing it whenever I go out. I bet you are bored of it lol. Saying that, I didn’t wear it on sunday but I forgot to take a picture that day. Nothing much to do today except take a long walk down to the pier and have a meal at a cafe that we have never been to. The pier was too crowded so I didn’t dare to take any pictures in front of so many people. We also found out that there was a bowling alley above the arcade next to the cafe we had our meal and perhaps one day we shall do bowling as I have never gone bowling before. *eek*

Waiting for food

Le bf & his ray-bans, the only thing on him that isn’t by VANS. lol.

Ah, i wish i look better in pictures. I blame my parents for giving me rubbish cheekbones.

Outfit Details: June metallic leather jacket, ASOS petites crochet dress, Michael by Michael Kors shoulder bag (which i use as a clutch haha), Pamela Mann Grey marl tights, Doc Martens boots.

Holiday Inspiration

Ah, I have been pondering over what to pack for my 10 day trip to Spain in June and have come up with a handy inspiration page to help me. I’ll have to tone down my usual style as le boyfriend’s family are all very casual types and I’ll feel completely out of place if I went overboard and launched into my favourite metallica.

The inspiration comes mostly from my favourite editorial ever from the March Issue of British Vogue, the one featuring Daria & Lily Donaldson. I loved how the look of colourful bright colours with silver jeans and statement shoes, but I’ll have to keep it to grey jeans in my case.

I also realised that I am attracted to pryamid studs and I am thinking of buying some arts & crafts supplies to add studs to some of my clothes when I have some spare money. I am so completely in love with those studded Loeffler Randall sandals which will blend so perfectly with the Supre metallic trim strappy dress. (Supre is Australia’s answer to Topshop/New Look)

Words can’t describe how much I love the entire Daria & Lily photoshoot and I hope that one day I’ll be daring enough to step out in a very similar look. It is just what i want summer to be like - colourful & fun!

So girls, what do you plan to wear for your holiday this summer? (or imagine if you are going on holiday)

Drench Me In Jewellery Please…

Now that the weather is finally starting to warm up, it also means that your wintery layers come off and your arms finally get to see the light of day. So its goodbye to chunky knits and wooly coats, the summer layers are all about smart accessorizing. A good way to start is with your jewellery - layering necklaces or a unique scarf is always a chic option.

I’ve never been one to collect jewellery and I find myself reluctant to shell out more than £10 for a piece usually. I tend to stick to wearing 1 piece of jewellery for a long period of time until it falls apart before purchasing a new one. Although saying that, I did go through a time in my life when I made my own accessories, thanks to the influence of my ex-colleague Madeline (who’s accessory crazy!)

These days, I’m bored of my usual outfit concoction and am starting to find jewellery fascinating. I want vintage looking necklaces, cuff bracelets, classic pearl necklaces, charm bracelets/necklaces, layerable chain necklaces, etc. I want either a standout piece of statement jewellery or thin chain necklaces that I can layer like crazy over a boring plain ol’ tank top.

They have to be cheap and chic. Real vintage jewellery would be the best I suppose, I just love things with some history to it.

I’ve selected some pieces of jewellery that I wouldn’t mind spending loads on. I especially love the layered chains & pearl necklace by Juicy Couture and if I had £143 to spare right now, I know that it is what I definitely want. Of course if I was hardworking enough, I could replicate the look by gathering some pearl and chain necklaces myself. A necklace like that would look amazing over a simple ruffled dress and also make a regular plain vest top look 10000x more interesting under my favourite jacket. Ah, a girl can dream!

Street Style Suprise and more…

I was just looking at a new streetstyle site that I have never seen before and I came across this girl dressed in black but with shiny black patent accents and I thought she looked pretty cool. This streetstyle website Street Peeper, even showed a list of where the street styler got her items from. It was such a pleasant suprise to read that her cool leather jacket was by June. I love that she wore a long cardigan as a dress too and added a black over the shoulder Prada fringe bag to accessorize with.

(New York, 28 April 200 8)

Dressing head to toe in complete black is very french chic but i think choosing different textures in your clothes or accessories can make black much more interesting.

(London, 23 April 200 8)

Its not even autumn and she’s already channelling Luella’s Autumn/Winter 2008 look. So I guess its not too early for me to buy some orange tights and mix it with my blue clothes.

 (New York, 22 April 200 8)

According to the street style site notes, he is wearing the same silver metallic Miss Sixty jeans that I own. While I think that he looks good in it, I also hate that he is wearing girls jeans. Which reminds me, I really need to get it altered or wear it coz I haven’t actually worn it more than once since I bought it. What a waste huh! And silver leggings/jeans aren’t even trendy anymore. I couldn’t care less anyway, I love silver.

(Russia, not sure about the date)

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love a denim jacket over a taupe coloured dress, its literally a marriage made in heaven, just like how silver & pink belong together.

More

Well, I wish I had found more interesting looks to show you guys but it seems that street style is starting to get boring (for me anyway) and I feel as if I am seeing the same old styles over and over again. While “parisian chic” is a style highly coveted by fashionsistas, I think that everyone tends to end up looking “same-ish” (at least from what I see) and sometimes I wish I could come up with some ground-breaking “new” and “different” yet chic outfits. The only people I could think of that has the potential to have this “style” that i am dreaming of is Susie of Style Bubble and Michelle of Kingdom of Style.

If I am being completely honest, I would love to go crazy and wear my silver coated jeans with a gold jacket and maybe a matte bronze top under it with metallic fuschia heels. It would be too much of a sight for any regular person to take and I’d probably end up getting shouted at for being a lunatic instead of being chic. I think that as much as I would like to think that my style isn’t at all influenced by the public, some part of it is actually, I constantly feel the need to tone down my outfits or else people may criticise my style or not read my blog anymore. Perhaps one day when people are more open to radicial ideas than I can be completely 100% the “stylish” person I want to be, completely drenched in metallic clothes and shine like a star. *not celebrity, literally star in the sky*

I don’t understand how people can look at someone’s outfit and somehow decide that they are trying “too hard” or not because for all you know he or she had seriously not thought about her outfit and just put on whatever she liked that day. To be “stylish” seems to typically mean that the person’s outfit proportions are balanced, the colours work relatively well or very well together or the outfit is pretty basic but the person has got an attractive face and a model-esque body. It seems as if there is an invisible and unwritten rule embedded in our heads already and if someone comes along with something totally outrageous and not similar to what everyone thinks “chic” is, the outfit comes across as “trying too hard” or “ridiculous” or “plain yuck”.

It would be nice to see more crazy outfit combinations in street style sites anyway. I’ll keep searching…

Leather Jacket Love.

The leather jacket has been a staple in the celebrity fashion diet for many years. This in turn has become a trend that every fashionsista wants a piece of. Whilst leather companies like Wilson’s leather have continually churned out classic leather outerwear at an affordable price, their appeal market seems to be with real bikers and are not always suitable for everyday wear. On the other hand, most regular folk like us can’t afford to pay thousands of dollars for a high-end designer leather jacket that the celebrities tend to sport. Then not too long ago, Mike & Chris (a celebrity favourite) arrived with their range of cool leather jackets with signature leather hoods, but still a little overpriced. While Mike & Chris is the designer to look out for if you are in the market for a head-turning contemporary piece of leatherwear, I have been checking out other brands with a more reasonable price tag but not short in terms of quality or style.

I was introduced to this contemporary designer brand “June”, which you’ll remember, if you have been reading my last few blog entries, when I saw The OC’s Marissa Cooper wearing their metallic cropped suede jacket on a Season 3 episode. As mentioned in my last post, I received a friendly message from the designer of June, Mr. Pablo Pantoja himself who informed me of the company’s official web address which I have been unable to locate for a long time. (For those of you who are interested it is at : www.junewear.com )

Their Spring/Summer collection features a few tropical weather friendly pieces for people who can’t get enough of leather jackets. It is superb for me especially since I will be moving back to Singapore in the autumn this year and I love the “tough” image that the leather jacket provides me with, and its ability to make feminine pieces not too girly for the tom-boy in me.

This cute little cropped bubble sleeve shrug in goat leather is a good example of a perfect leather jacket for hot weather. Teamed with a floaty summer dress and wedge heels, it’ll be your summer cover-up staple. I especially love the little chain that links both sides of the jacket together, you certainly don’t need a necklace accessory with that cute chain hanging under your bust! It also comes in cream and silver mink suede. (check out the website for pictures) It is currently on my wish-list and I hope that I will be able to buy one for myself soon.

In the same Spring 2008 collection, there is a great classic zip-up style with lapel detailing which is extremely flattering for most body-types. It even comes with a useful inner pocket for your I-Pod which makes it ideal for long walks where you might want to do without a bag. This is highly suitable for those who like their leather outerwear to be timeless and never out of style.

If you are less adventurous but still want a cute and simple trendy style leather jacket for summer, this cropped short sleeved jacket (similar to the first jacket i’ve shown above) might suit you better. I like this in tan instead of black and would love to wear it over this season’s denim dress (perhaps in a sleeveless or strappy style) for a “western” look.

I also love June’s hooded leather zip-up vest which I think is a great alternative way to introduce a more modern and edgy look to anyone’s personal style. Worn over a floaty dress, a long tank top with skinny jeans or even with shorts, they are definitely a must-have for any leather loving girl. The decorative pockets are small and do not add bulk like big pockets do and the vertical zip detailing actually gives off a subtle slimming effect.

Perhaps you love leather so much that you might even consider a pair of leather shorts. This high-waisted suede and leather pair is an interesting piece that will give new meaning to a simple summer blouse. If I was in an experimental mood, I’d wear it with a pair of grey tights in a low denier with ankle heeled boots.

During the time while I was still searching for the metallic leather jacket, I came across a couple of online stores that stock June’s products. This black suede one is quite similar to the one I have and is great if you are looking for a cropped leather jacket in a less “biker” style but in more of a classic “trench coat” style. It is available on Bleuclothing.com for US$312 (approx £155) which I feel is a pretty reasonable price for a good quality leather jacket by a contemporary designer.

Here are a few more leather jackets by June for your consideration:

“Burnished” Leather Cropped Jacket $389 at Jlamore.com

Dark Tan Goat Skin Leather Hooded Jacket $370 at ShopAmiami.com

Prices Unknown, keep checking out the following websites that stock JUNE instead.

Bleuclothing.com

ShopAmiAmi.com

Jlamore.com

From what I know, June’s products tend to be priced around $132 - $600 (USD) and they are also stocked in major departmental stores in America like Bergdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel and Anthropologie. Keep checking their official website Junewear.com for official updates.

 (On A Personal Note)

I want the cropped leather bubble sleeve jacket so badly now. I hope it doesn’t cost too much, the UK VAT charges along with the extra service fee charged by Royal Mail or other logistic services makes me sad. I suppose I’ll have to wait til I’m back in Singapore with a job again before I can make a new “June” purchase.
